High chairs are an absolute must for your baby! When that six-month mark rolls around & it’s time to eat, it’s important to do it safely!

Being the silly person that I am, I didn’t register for a high chair because “that’s too far off”. Don’t be like me. Register for a high chair. You will need one before you can blink twice! You’re also going to need one for that all too important 1st birthday cake smash! Just saying…

Now that my PSA for the day is finished, let me get straight to the task at hand: high chair comparisons!

If you’re in any mom groups on social media, you’ve likely seen over a dozen mamas requesting the best high chair suggestions. And, in typical social media fashion, you’ve likely also seen over a dozen comments suggesting a dozen different chairs. And the OP is still at square one with no real direction!

Considering that I was one of those mamas stumbling lost around the high chair aisle, I decided to consolidate a list of the chairs that I’ve seen most often suggested in these groups & do a bit of research.

For each chair, I’ve done what we all do when prepping to purchase anything online: scrolled straight to the comments!

I’ve listed the most common praises & complaints from verified buyers, as well as the general stats for each chair to make for easy comparison. At the end is also a comparison table for stats at a glance!

Let’s get right to it!

The 4mom’s chair is a favorite mostly because it looks sleek & is easy to clean! The tray is easy to attach one-handed which is a fabulous feature. The main point of this chair is the magnetic tray, but most reviews say it’s pretty much worthless even with the name brand magnetic bowls. Despite this, it still seems to be a good, reliable choice overall.

Keep in mind there is no footrest (although there are hacks on Pinterest for this issue) & if you have a smaller baby, you may need the extra insert to help reach the tray. If you think it’s worth the hype, I recommend purchasing the chair directly from Ikea for the best price!

Pros

Cons

  • Most common compliment: Easy to clean

  • Adjustment Levels:
    • Recline: none
    • Height: none

  • Pulls up to dining table

Pros

Cons

  • Most common compliment: Fits at dining table

Summary

Tripp Trapp is a chair that will truly grow with your child, adjusting to whatever height needed. Seating an infant does require the baby set & the chair does not come with a tray, but most parents prefer simply pushing baby up to the table with the family. It seems to be sturdy & able to hold up over time (a must for a chair that should last 18+ years!).

    • Height: any height between 26.25″ to 29.5″
    • Tray: 2 positions
  • Wheels: yes
  • Footrest: yes
  • Storage: does not fold
  • Ease of Cleaning:
    • Seat: easy-wipe removable foam cushion
    • Tray: dishwasher safe liner; wipeable tray

Summary

The Boon Flair chair has a very modern look. It’s customizable height feature seems to be a plus, but some parents complain it doesn’t go high enough for bar-style tables. The seat itself seems to hold true to the “easy-to-clean” claims, but the tray liner, which is dishwasher safe, doesn’t fully cover the tray, which isn’t dishwasher safe & appears to hold water easily. Many parents, however, are overall pleased with their purchase!

Summary

The JOOVY Nook high chair is an inexpensive option with some pretty cool features: the swing-open tray, one-handed folding option, & the leather-type material. The most common complaint was too many nooks & crannies to catch crumbs, making the chair more difficult to clean. If you have little space but still want to take advantage of some of the more “premium features” compared to other less expensive chairs, then you may want to delve deeper into this one!

  • Plastic liner doesn’t fully cover wooden tray
  • Some complaints of stain coming off when wiped
  • Some complaints of crumbs getting in adjustment notches

Stats

  • Age Range: 6m – adulthood
  • Weight Limit: 250 lbs

The chair does come with a tray (which some complaints say it’s too small), but the chair can be easily used pulled up to the table with no tray.

Graco Blossom 6-in-1 Convertable High Chair

The Graco Blossom 6-in-1 Convertable High Chair is yet another “grow with baby” chair. It can be used from infancy to elementary age. It does have a more traditional high chair look.

  • Most common complaint: Stiff wheels
  • Takes up a lot of space
  • Straps not removable
  • Nooks & crannies catch food

Stats

  • Age Range: 6m+
  • Weight Limit: 40 lbs for high chair; 60 lbs for booster & youth chair
  • Harness Style: 3 point & 5 point harness
  • Adjustment Levels:
    • Recline: 3 positions
    • Height: 6 positions
    • Tray: 3 positions

It does not fold, so this chair may not be the best choice for parents with smaller spaces!

Stats Comparison Chart

Summary

I hope these comparisons help make your decision a little less difficult! Please note that every single high chair had comments of nooks & crannies for crumbs, so I believe that aspect is inevitable no matter what you choose.

When trying to decide, keep in mind your budget, how much space you’re willing to give up, & how long you want to use the chair.

I highly recommend reading the reviews for your favorite chairs for yourself in order to make the most informed decision.
